Birthday

Daddy turned 24 one week before Josie turned the big 1.

Funny, I remember last year pacing around Carousel mall as Josh excitedly popped into each electronic store. I'd quietly pray, "Lord, please help all this walking move things along... a baby would be an awfully cool birthday present to give him!" Of course, God knew when it would be Josie's day... and now, I'm thankful they each have their own special day to celebrate. Two cakes a week apart from each other! -I'll take it. :)

After cake, Ashton gave Daddy the gifts he picked out. Teddy was so proud.

A little girl nick nack

A purple rhinestone brush

Scented oils

Dora bubbles and fashionable sunglasses

and, while Josh and I were out on our date, he let me pick this book up for the kids...

It has a wonderful collection of poems. I was impressed by the selection. The next day I sat skimming through the pages while sipping coffee and reading the poems outloud to the kids. Ashton actually listened to the one about the Octopus while Josie stared inside the book pointing at the soft brush stroke paintings. I love books like these. With their heavy pages and black typings decorated with a beautiful back drop. How could one not be inspired?

Oh, Robert Frost... how you enlighten me.

And so, a few days passed and we began to celebrate Josie's big day... a few days early. Ashton decided to hand over the gift he chose for his little sister. A baby doll that laughs and cries.

After the spontaneous gift giving... we decided to all go play outside like we do most days. But this day was extra special because we happened on a wonderful discovery.

BLACKBERRIES!

We wheeled the wagon back into the yard and enjoyed popsicles and a hotdog barbeque. -With a side of sprinkler ball and turtle sand box.

At last it was time to get down to some serious birthday party baking...

On Saturday, mommy and daddy decided Josie needed a present fix. Just to tide her over until Sunday. So Ashton carefully helped her unwrap each of the shiny pink packages.

We just loved our homemade kitty, Tabitha...

I painted this for above her bed in her room...

In the midst of all our birthday planning, baking and celebrating... we took a time out to visit our friend, Ethan, to celebrate his.

(I think a hockey stick suits Ashton well.)
(my camera was also running low on battery)

**************************************************
And, just like that... the big day arrived. Our girl turned one.
**************************************************

I made a rainbow cake to go with her colors theme...

And the most obnoxiously colorful mini "smash" cake you ever did see... (on the inside and out!)

Oh, we also had cupcakes in icecream cones... and about 10 dozen various cookies.

It was party time!

Moo and Matt were the most colorful of all...

The kids had star shaped sandwhiches I wrapped in wax paper and tied with ribbon. *giggle*

The kids played a quick game of lucky ducks. You find a star - you win a prize. Woo hoo! (my camera was very foggy at this point)

We also did a rainbow pull string pinata.

The kids each had their own sand pail for the the pinata. All bright and colorful of course.

*ding ding ding* Now it's time for the main event... Let's get readdyyy toooo rumbleeeee...

We got cleaned off by a cool dip in the duck pond.

Present time!

We loved our pencil crayons from our bff, Sadie

Even Ashton was lucky enough to receive gifts!

We got new shoes!

Matt won the rainbow lollipop award for being the most colorful person at the party!

and just like that... the party was finished. Our big girl ran around in her new shoes and sposie diaper as deflated balloons trailed behind her. Still laughing and drinking up the moment... that's my girl!

We love you, baby girl. Happy Birthday.
